Welcome to the 2014-15 Initiation Program
2014-08-30Summer is almost over, but that means hockey is back!
As registration draws to a close for our upcoming season, I know that a lot of parents are wondering about some basic information, like when does the season start and what times are we on the ice.
First, a bit of background. We want your little person to have the best possible experience during their time in IP, so we split the kids into two groups; IP B for kids who are just getting started or would benefit from being with other kids of the same skill level, and IP A for our kids who are more confident and would benefit from more of a challenge. At the start of the season, the on-ice instructors will assess the kids and make sure they are in the right group, regardless of their age.
Our IP B group will be playing at the Sandy Hill arena every Saturday morning from 7 - 9 AM, starting September 27. Our IP A group plays at the Minto arena every Sunday morning from 7:30 - 9:30 AM, starting September 28. This can feel pretty early on a cold winter's morning, but IP aged kids are usually awake early anyway, and once we're off the ice, you get the better part of the the day to do other things. You probably have a pretty good idea of which group will be best for your child, but until the sort outs, I can't tell you for certain which day you will get.
As well, we are organizing a parent's info session and on-ice fun day later in September (tentatively booked for September 20th at St. Laurent). In that meeting, we will cover how you can volunteer to help the team, how to dress your kids (always a fun experience if it's the first time you've tried), tips from returning parents, and talk about how we do tournaments and other team activities. Then we'll head out on the ice as a group for a fun skate. Stay tuned for details.
