Welcome to U13 House A - 2024-25
2024-10-01 - OE U13 A1Hello all -
On behalf of all U13A coaches, welcome to all the parents and players of U13 House A!
I'm Coach OC (Olivier), and we're lucky this year to also have behind the bench Coach PO (Pierre-Olivier) and Coach Steph (Mr. Brisebois).
(please do, but ..) If you don't read all the below, just read this: Show up to practice. Always arrive 15-20 minutes early, and let us know if your player will be absent. We're looking for volunteers to help with team roles. We want to win, but having fun, playing fair, and respect are top priorities.
CONTACT
In terms of contacting me/us, until we get (whatever platform we'll be using) set up, if you have any questions you can shoot me a text/call 613-862-7653 or email at ocullen1@gmail.com.
VOLUNTEERS
If anyone would like to put their hand up to assist the team in other volunteer capacities (management, treasurer, timekeepers, DJ, etc.) please let me know. Coaches can't do it all and the more help the team has, the better it is for the players.
ATTENDANCE
Thanks for your great attendance (and patience) so far throughtout the sort outs, practices, and exhibition games. Please remeber two important things about attendance: 1./ it's important (imperative) to show up to practices and games AT LEAST 15-20 minutes before the ice time starts and 2./ it's tremendously helpful to let us coaches know if your player will be absent. There is actually a lot of planning that goes into practices and games, and having the accurate number ensures we aren't scrambling at the last minute.
Lastly (and importantly) on attendance: players improve every time they step on the ice, whether that's a practice or a game. If practices are missed, that player will not improve at the same rate as their teammates, they will not be able to follow the same playbook, and they will fall behind. The team gets stronger together, and if we are often missing players, it drags down the entire squad. Please come to practice.
PHILOSOPHY
The players are getting older and are now playing at the highest level of U13 house. We are a strong, talented team and we will play against other strong, talented teams. With this inhernetly comes the desire to be more competitive and to win games.
Coaches always want each player and the team to play their best, to play hard, to be 'aggressive' (within reason!), and to give it their all. However - we must remind ourselves that this is still house league, this is still a game being played by kids, that the overall objective is to want to show up to the rink, to be with friends, to play, and to have fun. Let's not kid ourselves: it's more fun to win than to lose, but both are important to the develoment of our kids. We talk a lot in the dressing room about respect - for teammates, for coaches, for the other team, for the referees, and for the game itself. Let's keep that all in mind as we move through the season.
SCHEDULE
A reminder that the schedule is posted in GoalLine. Our next ice is tomorrow (Wednesday) 7pm at Sandy Hill; Thursday 7pm at St. Laurent, and Saturday 9am at Sandy Hill (we are trying to lock down another exhibition game here, TBD).
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns,
OC.
P.S. We need a better name than OEMHA U13 HL A ... start thinking!!
